Do you floss your teeth at least once a day? You should, and here's why:
Bad breath, also called halitosis, is a much more common issue than many people realize. Although it is common, bad breath should not be taken lightly, as it can be a sign of illness or disease.
The Importance of Saliva
When you have less saliva in your mouth, plaque buildup is more likely to occur. When plaque buildup occurs, this can lead to bad breath. Flossing can help remove the plaque that your toothbrush misses.
Certain activities can reduce saliva flow and cause bad breath. These activities include:
Alcohol Consumption - Alcoholic drinks can easily cause dry mouth. If you do have any alcohol, be sure to floss before you go to bed.
Not Flossing in the Morning - As you sleep, the flow of saliva in your mouth slows down. When you wake up, be sure to include flossing during your morning routine.
Being Hungry or Thirsty - Make sure that you stay hydrated through the day to help protect your mouth from bacteria and bad breath. You should also be sure to have a proper diet; the act of chewing helps increase the saliva in your mouth.
